Laser hair removal results and what to expect
The results and what to expect
Laser hair removal is a common treatment to remove unwanted hair, and you can get it done on the legs, armpits, upper lip, chin and the bikini line. The laser beam damages only the hair follicles, therefore a color contrast between the hair and skin ensures a more desirable outcome.
For the best results, you need two to six treatment sessions. The interval between each session will vary depending on the part of the body targeted for hair removal. You will be instructed to shave 24 hours prior to your treatment. You also need to wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beams.
After the procedure, you might be given cold packs, cold water compress or anti-inflammatory lotions to ease any discomfort. For areas where hair grows faster, you can repeat the treatment again after four to eight weeks. This time frame can change for areas with slower hair growth, and be anywhere from 12 to 16 weeks.
If you have dark skin, you should use advanced laser technology. In addition, laser hair removal is less effective for grey, red, blond and white hair.
Benefits of laser hair removal
Although the results of laser hair removal vary significantly and are difficult to predict, this method is still one of the most commonly used cosmetic procedures to remove face and body hair. Benefits of laser hair removal include:
- Precision
Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs without damaging the surrounding skin.
- Speed
Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat large clusters of hair at the same time.
- Predictability
You can see the results anywhere between three to seven sessions.
